TAK TALK: Translation Without Limits

TAK TALK: Translation Without Limits

Language barriers slow operations. Cloud-based tools fail without connectivity. Voice comms drain limited bandwidth.

We built TAK TALK to solve that.

What it does:

TAK TALK translates 50+ languages in real-time, entirely on-device. It works offline, in airplane mode, and over low-bandwidth mesh networks like Meshtastic and ClusterDuck. By transmitting text instead of audio, it uses 90-99% less bandwidth than voice. And your data stays secure, intel never leaves your network.

TAK TALK uses three chained ML models for its speech-to-text-to-speech with translation pipeline, each of which has its own list of supported languages and criteria for support. Once downloaded and installed, any reasonably modern phone (Android 14+ with at least 8GB RAM) has full offline access to all of TAK TALK's language capabilities.

Two modes. Zero Compromises.

TAK TALK has 2 modes, single-device mode lets two people have a near-real-time conversation using one phone. TAK TALK second mode enables distributed communication: the speaker's phone captures speech as text, then the listener's phone translates and synthesizes, enabling hands-free communication over networks with limitations like low bandwidth, intermittent connectivity, or degraded signal quality.

Why it matters:

Multi-domain operations demand seamless communication across services and environments. TAK TALK delivers that, even in disconnected or contested spaces where traditional tools quit.

We tested it against standards like BLEU and chrF++ for translation accuracy, assessing the quality of a translation in contexts where they are appropriate. According to OpenAI, the industry standard for speech-to-text is a Word Error Rate below 50%. We held TAK TALK to stricter criteria, especially since outputs get translated afterward. Our system lists 57 languages that meet industry benchmarks, but we excluded several based on our higher standards for real-world performance, not just technical capability.

TAK TALK is one example of how Certus Innovations delivers mission-critical tech that performs in the field.
